Being a Barbarian at Blaze Burgers

So by now it’s pretty clear that I love a good burger! And with so many places to try in the city, it seems there’s a never ending list of different joints offering their version of the best burger. Some are great and some are less so. What to do? One joint that is doing great things is Blaze Burgers which is originally from Bahrain.

Blaze Burgers is an interesting concept that allows you to choose from a range of options to build a burger but not in the same totally customizable way that say The Counter used to let you. There’s still a wide range of things to customize like the buns, the patties and then the filling style which are all set options with some fun names. It’s a formula that seems to work well for this Bahraini Burger import.

Unsuprisingly, the interior style is typically industrial with all the regular things you would expect to see, exposed ceiling plumbing and of course street art - which was at the least by some very well known artists offering up some witty stenciled pieces.

Probably the most novel aspect of the visit is before the burger is served, you are invited to make your way over to the condiment stand where you have a free run at all sorts extra toppings and sauces, which is kinda cool and adds to the overall high level of service. Speaking of which, I tried to give my server a tip but he politely declined stating that they offer great service to all guests and tips are not required…..

So on to the eating and the Old School burger with the Barbarian treatment is great! What is the Barbarian? - that entails a fried egg, melted cheese, beef bacon and habanero mayo, which is for me a throwback to an old school Aussie style burger. As for the sides, well if you’ve come this far as a barbarian then it’s pretty obvious I'm going to need some Angry Fries, which is on the spicy side of things but not too crazy. Again this is delicious but not for the diet inclined.

Bottom line here is that the burger was great, cooked to perfection and presented nicely (along with the fries) in some cast iron baking pans. When it's all said and done, you are offered a burger crime scene cleaning kit which is also a fun little extra and actually pretty helpful to clean your messy self up.

There are other options to try like the Texas BBQ (which was ok) and for those that like it lighter - the Wagyu Burger in a lettuce cup which in my books isn’t actually a burger but it was pretty darn good.

Blaze away!
