Content Overview

We’re keeping things simple here.

We’ve been casually blogging since 2009. We’ve been a little more professional about it since 2015.

We visit the places that interest us, life and time is too precious to do otherwise.

Our focus is on food, hotel stays and design. The blog features high quality photography, unbiased opinions and musings laced with a little bit of dry wit and humor. The site takes on a minimalist style, with plenty of white space and zero clutter and no advertising to give you a good looking and sophisticated browsing experience that is best viewed on mobile devices.

Our approach is quality driven and all of the photography, the words, the reviews and opinions expressed are ours and ours alone. We are highly independent and typically pay our way, unlike the ten thousand other self appointed influences out there asking for a hand out.

Our Approach To Restaurant & Hotel Reviews

Reviews are based on our experiences as they occur taking into consideration all of the aspects that go into a meal or a stay. If we get great service we’ll tell you, if we don’t - yep you guessed it - we’ll tell you that too. We’re genuinely passionate about food and hospitality and we care about providing a balanced and informative view that is hopefully a good read at the same time. We do work with outlets who value our quality approach so for the purposes of transparency, it will also be made clear to our readers if the visit was an invited one through the use of the #invited hashtag.

As far as our destination selection - just like you, we visit cities, stay in hotels and dine at restaurants that appeal to our tastes. Our interest could be in a chef or a cuisine or it could be the allure of a setting or a hotel destination that piques our interest. Likewise, there’s certain things about a country or a city that is really interesting that draws us in to want to explore further.

Our Rating System

When Talking Fork reviews a destination be it a hotel stay or a restaurant, generally we are evaluating things like: Interior Design & Ambience, Service & Engagement, Presentation & Originality, Taste & Refinement and Memorability & Value. These attributes pretty much sum up the experience of a visit and when combined allow for us provide the following recommendations:

The bottom line here is that these recommendations are simple and to the point.

3 Forks is a Must Go! Maybe not quite the same as getting three Michelin stars…For us this rating means that the venue provided a highly unique and memorable experience, consisting of either exemplary taste, quality or service.

2 Forks is a Worth It! That means that this is somewhere that is definitely worth checking out.

1 Tilted Fork means Maybe? You know what that means right?

1 Upside Down Fork is a Sorry! While this doesn’t necessarily mean totally give it a miss, the chances are you’d survive if you did.

Rating Disclaimer

Our quick glance rating system is meant to be easy to use and tongue in cheek.

As with everything in life, there are ups and downs and trials and tribulations in almost every situation these days. This includes a meal or stay somewhere. We make no representations about being able to guarantee a high rating as it’s all very subjective and is completely dependent on what happens in the moment. Perhaps the food is fantastic but the service lousy, does it still get an all star rating? No.

With this in mind, if you feel that your venue has been unfairly rated please reach out to discuss the visit in detail.
