Nightime Eats at Newton Center Singapore
News Flash! I love Asian Street Food and any chance I get when traveling I’m always on the hunt for a new spot to check out. I ended up meeting with a friend who took me down to Newton Circus which is one of the city's most well known Hawker Street Food spots.
This veritable treasure trove of Hawker Stalls has been in operation since 1971, although it was closed and temporarily relocated back in 2006 to give the place a facelift. Today it is once again brimming with all sorts of street-food goodness and is one of the must go to night spots for everything from Rojak and Oyster Omelettes to Hokkien Mee Noodles, Chicken Wings, Laksa, Satay and their classic Sambal Stingray. With its loud and boisterous stall owners touting their wares and the energetic vibe of the central outdoor eating area this one place that should be on every foodies Singapore bucket list.
As far as location goes, it’s pretty central and super close to the Shangri-la Hotel which is one of my favorite places to stay.
For old timers, the newer version may not have the same feeling that it used to but the food is as authentic as it comes and is great value for money, so there's no chance that a visit will break the bank. The best way to do it is to just get in there and roll your sleeves up and order away! It's busy place, so be sure to get a table first - an old local trick is to put a tissue box down on the table to 'reserve' it. They will also come in handy because it can get messy - in a good way.
This is a definitely one not to miss.
