Bombs Away - Bombay Bungalow
Let's start this with a little preface: It's always very sad to have to write a negative review. As celebrators of food we always seek to look on the bright side of things, unfortunately things don't always work out.
Having been to the previous incarnation of this venue a few times and never had a bad meal, we thought it might be nice to check in and see what's up with the Bungalow. Regrettably, it seems that things have changed a little, not with the decor (which is nice) but with the end product. Let's be clear - the menu reads well and seems to want to create a fusion mix of Indian classics with a little European crossover. That’s cool. And to be honest the the service was pleasant too.
Here’s where it get a little awkward. Truth be told, the food looked good but was however over priced and not really up to scratch.
So what did we get?
Here’s quick run down. The Samosas were ok, the Lamb Biryani was ok but tiny with about 6 pieces of meat for 75 AED. The Butter Chicken was all gravy with minimal flavor a handful of wildly over cooked pieces of chicken for 65 AED. These were items were only just bearable, the biggest offender however was the fusion Tellicherry Beef Ribs at an incredible 85 AED for what can only be described as a dismal failure of a dish. Doused in a green sauce the 'ribs' were either an old cut of meat or simply not cooked properly as the three pieces offered were very difficult to chew and essentially tasteless. The third and largest piece was blatantly all fat and completely inedible. Anyone with any sense of quality in the kitchen would never have served it as it was absolutely obvious, so it looked as if they just threw the sauce over it and hoped for the best.
So upon discovering this, we raised quietly and politely (as a courtesy to just say hey something's really wrong here) with the staff who spoke to a manager, who didn't want to come over and incredulously, a solitary new piece of meat was offered and delivered to the table!. Thanks, but no thanks that's not the issue.....
Where to even begin.
