Feasting on Seafood at Sheraton Grand
Promising an exciting buffet of freshly cooked seafood treats, Feast at the Sheraton Grand downtown was an interesting Thursday night prospect.
With seven cooking stations, there’s quite a lot on offer here with the main attraction clearly being the fresh seafood. From Oysters, Shrimp and Crab through to Salmon and Lobster it’s a real seafood lovers line up.
Aside from the fresh cooking stations, there’s also the expected staples like sushi, soups and salads along with roast and curry too. There’s also quite an expansive bread section fantastically lit in the center of the room, and of course there’s a bunch of sweets for those that can’t live without their dessert.
While the decor is somewhat non descript, there’s a few nice touches, like the lighting using cutlery and crockery as a part of the fixtures. It’s quite a big space but there’s enough hustle and bustle to give a sense of atmosphere and the service friendly, especially our guy Ali who brought his own sense of style and humor to the evening.
Usually when you dive into these things, there’s a tendency to go for the salads and the sushi first along with some of the fried stuff like calamari rings or fish n’ chips. I think at this venue those items are a little secondary to the main game. At Feast, I think its a matter of going easy on that stuff and just jumping straight into the cooked to order seafood and cold section like the fresh oysters and shrimp.
The cold section was pretty good and there’s range of sauces on offer, so if you’re so inclined - you could make your own endless supply of shrimp cocktail and probably be super happy with just that. Speaking of which, the oysters were definitely fresh but came without one vital condiment - Tabasco, which was a little strange. We ended up making an improvised hot sauce from the noodle section!
Moving on and we attacked the seafood grill with some gusto and built a spectacular looking plate of goodness trying a little of everything. There were a few a highlights, like the bbq prawns which were cooked perfectly. The lobster was good too but slightly overcooked, regrettably diminishing its star quality. Everything is cooked to order in the open kitchen right in front of you, so it’s probably a wise idea to gently remind the them how you would like your seafood done.
While Feast isn’t a signature dining destination, it’s still a spot that has quite a bit to offer. It’s down to earth and the kind of venue that’s perfect for families or perhaps business get-togethers for groups looking for a no fuss evening that won’t break the bank.
For those that love a seafood buffet, you could do worse that find yourself here feasting on your favorites.
