Daikan 2.0 - Don't call it a comeback
When Daikan first opened it was in a kind of temporary arrangement in the old Meatballers joint in the Marina. Finally, after what has seemed like an eternity the fully fledged location is up and running over at Cluster Y in JLT.
Just like the straightforward ethos of the place, It’s simple, clean and to the point. It’s not big in space but definitely big when it comes to flavors, with their bowls of ramen packing some serious punch.
There’s a few options on offer including the Spicy Miso and the Chef’s Special and they all have a lovely deep, complex broth that’s actually quite addictive. The noodles are thick with an added bitey texture that makes them quite unique. There’s a few extra things on the menu worth checking with the gyoza being pretty solid and the Karaage quite enjoyable too.
For me Daikan is to Ramen what El Mostasho is to Tacos.
Last year I described my favorite Taqueria in JLT as:
Serving up home style Tacos and Burritos with a minimal fanfare, this outlet offers a simple one page menu that smacks of authenticity while the food smacks of good times and big flavors.
The same basic principle applies here at Daikan and works really, really well.
Humble and friendly with a banging soundtrack, no doubt there’s a whole lot of superlatives that you could throw at the place like hidden gem and best kept secret but why don’t we just agree to label Daikon as Dubai’s best Ramen instead?
