Finding Myself at Two Lost Boys
This isn’t a spiritual tale of inter connectedness but one of roaming the streets of Prahran. If you’ve ever taken a stroll around Windsor, it doesn’t take long to realize that this is a foodie haven. There's a lot going on with culinary temptations at every turn, so it would be forgivable if you missed a humble little cafe tucked away in a back corner of Chapel Street next to the Windsor Train Station, but let me tell you - Two lost Boys is definitely one spot that's worth finding.
The exterior gives little away to what’s happening on the inside but it’s the what’s happening on the inside that really sets this place apart.
The interior styling has been described as sophisticated grunge but is somewhat reminiscent of an old lake side shack with its wood paneling, big open windows and retained old ceiling. Newer elements are skillfully mixed in to contrast nicely with the old. A highlight being the quaint counter made from reclaimed doors and windows. The look is completed with the mandatory concrete floors and black furniture but does so without feeling cliched.
Famous for their specialty coffee and use of organic, locally farmed produce the two lost boys have definitely found their groove with this place. Another much heralded offering is their cheese toastie, which comes in an assortment of styles, including the Chikado.
At 47 Dirham, this isn't the cheapest option out there but this sourdough based number is a triumph. Its perfectly crisp, golden outside proving to be just the right vessel to carry the amazing, creamy chicken and avocado that sits inside harmoniously with their melted, rich house made cheese mix. A sprinkle of coarse sea salt to finish sets things off nicely with each bite really popping in the mouth.
The Chikado is served with some light, crispy potato gems, that while competent, don't stand a chance against the sublime qualities of this amazing toastie and are quickly consigned to the meh basket and that's not because they're bad, it's that the toastie is sooooo good and I’ve delved face first into a few of late.
Backing things up in just the right way is their laid back and friendly service, while their coffee is excellent. Overall this cafe has a lovely vibe about it that seems to be inviting and is clearly quality forward when it comes to their food offering.
As the retro soundtrack of love ballads wafts gently in background, I wished the boys all the best and continued to wander around Prahan aimlesslely, knowing that my cheesy inner peace had been found.
