When it comes to eating out I always seem to gravitate toward the more obscure, offbeat or underground kind of places. In doing so, I’d like to think- sometimes falsely, that the experience will be more genuine and the food and service more honest.
From the street to the suite our culinary curiosity has taken us across more than 25 countries and countless cities where we’ve dived head first into what’s on offer.
From hawker stands to Michelin starred restaurants and everything in between our passion for sharing the good life with those close to us sprouts conversation and opportunity.
For this we are eternally grateful.
Thanks for stopping by.

We check out a nice selection of Ramadan hits at the new Iftar at Al Waha Restaurant over in Business Bay at the the recently opened Gulf Court Hotel.
In a city riddled with contradictions it only seems logical that the paradoxical Indya by Vineet should be a hit. For some guests Indya will present as an oxymoron of sorts because the basic premise is high end street food.
How many different light fixtures can a restaurant have? We go to Soul for a bit of chinwaggery to find out…..
Seems the Majestic has a bit of knack of creating novel dining destinations. The first visit out there was in an effort to find Miss Wang, I didn’t find her but had a great night all the same.
Speaking of finding things, if you were trying to find the Music Room, well you’re out of luck but what you find in it’s place is Bar Baar - an eccentric Desi street food spot that’s part bar and part nightclub.
American BBQ is really starting to make it’s presence felt in Dubai and with the arrival of Dave - with more than 700 awards stuffed in his back pocket, Famous Dave’s new joint at Festival City was always going to be something I needed to be a part of.
With seven cooking stations and the promise of an exciting buffet of freshly cooked seafood treats, Thursday night is Simply Seafood at the Sheraton Grand downtown. Talking Fork went and checked out what this Feast is all about.
So The Pointe is starting to hit its straps now, will many outlets finally up an running. One of the much awaited venues to open its doors is the Asian District. Based around the idea of a Hawker Hall and taking notable design cues from the likes of Mr. Miyagi’s, the Asian District presents a large and open format eatery that showcases cuisine from Japan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Korea and Vietnam.
We check out the brand new Grand Millennium Hotel in Business Bay and their freshly opened Beau Rivage Bistro for their Mediterranean inspired brunch. Located on the canal side of the property, Beau Rivage is this Five Star destinations’ Bistro which serves up mostly Mediterranean fare in humble and rustic surrounds.
So with breakfast being such an important event, everyone needs a go to place for this morning ritual. My go to spot for quite a while on weekdays has been 1762 Stripped over in JLT and the reason is simple; great food and good coffee.
Back in the day you could bet every Friday was all about brunching. These days, I have to admit that I don’t get along to that many. There’s a few reasons, waistline, lack of time and the value proposition has become less enticing over the years. That’s not to say that they’re aren’t some fantastic brunches out there. From high to lower end, there’s a plethora of opportunities to stuff yourself silly from midday till 4pm.
While DIFC naturally steals the culinary limelight in the Trade Centre area, a stomping ground is emerging close by in the form of One Central. One of the early openings to set up shop is Andes, which is a new South American concept that is flush with elegance and style.
Buried in the depths of Barsha Heights, BARBARY is a by-product of the tawdry values, brazen spirit and musical energy of the neighborhood. Equal parts cocktail bar, retro club & delicatessen the room is a decorous blend of clandestine bar naughtiness with an illicit parlor feel.
One of the sprinkling of eateries on Bluewaters to become fully operational is the Selfish Bull, which is word play based around the idea of surf n turf. That means you can expect steaks and seafood along with some tasty sides to compliment these two staples.
Don’t you just love it when you discover a place that just gets it? Villamore is by no means the first or only water side venue that is pitched towards to the premium end of the scene but where others have either come across as too pretentious or not quite on point…
So the much vaunted Pointe on the Palm has finally opened and along with it, a whole host of new restaurants. As far as the destination goes, you could think of it as Club Vista Mare on steroids. The Pointe is not a small locale and when fully up and running is said to have no less than 100 restaurants. The most complete of these thus far seems to be the Chicago Meatpackers Bar & Grill
Now let’s be honest, there are a lot of misses when it comes to attempts at character led dining destinations in Dubai, but this little Miss isn’t one to be missed….
Taking inspiration from local heritage and focusing on the simplicity of diligently sourcing the freshest fish and seafood, The Fish House prides itself of delivering an authentic dining experience that is underscored by great service and stylish surrounds.
I’m always on the prowl for a few things, a cool spot for sun-downers and Mexican being at the top of the list. Luchador it seems then, is excatly the kind of joint I’m looking for.
A Hotels, is definitely stepping up their game with 2 new offerings following hot on the heels of the Girders Garden, Tribeca and now Penthouse 25.
